How does the NDIS Work?

The purpose of the NDIS is to offer recipients greater choice, control and independence to make decisions about how and where they spend their funding.

In collaboration with the NDIS, you create a funding package for the services you need. This package then requires approval before funding is allocated. The great thing about the system is that you can choose who will deliver your services from the approved providers available in your area. This gives care recipients greater choice and independence when designing their plan. Care1 is an approved provider for the NDIS, and we operate in a number of locations

What is involved in the NDIS application process?

You will need to visit the NDIS website and answer five simple questions to find out if you are eligible to receive funding via the NDIS. The final decision on eligibility is determined by the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency).
If you meet the criteria, there are a number of other steps to follow.

Access Request

If you meet the criteria for eligibility (have been informed that you can apply by the NDIA), you can complete the Access Request Form to ask to participate in the scheme.

Apply for the NDIS

Once it has been determined that you are eligible for the NDIS and you have already received your ‘access decision’ letter, you can move forward to creating your NDIS plan that outlines the support you need.

Create your plan

Your plan will eventually become a written agreement between you and the NDIS. To determine the right kind of help and support that you need, there will be a range of questions you need to answer. The answers to these questions will help to formulate a plan that will enable a better quality of life for you with the right support and services.

Use your plan

When you have an approved plan, you will be able to access it through the myplace portal – a secure area of the myGov website where you or your nominated person can see all your NDIS information.
At this stage you will need to find out about budgets, the people who can help you begin to use your plan, and the best ways to manage your plan and funding.

Review your goals and plan

Reviewing your goals and ensuring the plan is right for you is a key step in getting the most out of your NDIS.
